Итоги года: Международное сотрудничество

I. Research (joint projects):

1991-1995 - "Regularities in the formation of animal populations and communities in natural and human-influenced landscapes of the European North": University of Helsinki, Finland; Grimso Wildlife Research Station of Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, Sweden).

1992-1996 - "Population investigations and ecological studies of reproduction of arctic and subarctic migrating birds, in particular swans": University of Groningen, Utrext University, Ministry of Transport, Public Works and Water Management (The Netherlands) and with participation of International Waterfowl and Wetlands Research Bureau (IWRB, Slimbridge, England) and National Environmental Research Institute from Denmark.

1996-1998 - "Structure and Dynamics of the Pechora Delta Ecosystems": Wetland Advisory and Training Centre (Lelystad, The Netherlands).

1995-1997 - field works (within International project "Components of Environmental Degradation in Arctic Russia") on vegetation investigation and stratigraphy of different types of tundra and taiga bogs with the purpose to reconstruct paleoclimate and endogenic processes of late Holocene (Arctic Centre, Rovaniemi, Finland).

1998-2000 - "Tundra degradation in the Russian Arctic" (the functions of "Russian Coordinator" for this project) under European Commission IV Frame Environment and Climate Programme (Finland, Great Britain, The Netherlands, Denmark).

II. Contribution to International Issues

For Habitats for birds in Europe: a conservation strategy for the wider environment (Cambridge, U.K.: Birdlife International, 1997) some materials on forest bird habitats were prepared (1993). For the EBCC Atlas of European breeding birds: their distribution and abundance (London: T&AD Poyser, 1997) 4 scientists from our Institute contributed (1994) to the distribution data and produced the basic of maps and texts of the Atlas.

III. Institute of Biology as Organizer of International Conferences

I-IV International Conferences on The development of the North and problems of recultivation (Syktyvkar, 1991, 1994, 1998 and St.-Petersburg, 1996). Extended abstracts for 1st International Conference were published (1994) under assistance BYRD Polar Research Center, The Ohio State University (Ohio, USA).

Internaitonal Conference on Arctic Town and Environment (Vorkuta, 1994).

International Workshop on Plant Respiration: physiological and ecological aspects (Syktyvkar, 1995).

International Workshop on Phytoecdysteroids (Syktyvkar, 1996).

International Conference on "Finno-Ugric World: State of Nature and Regional Strategy of the Environment Protection" (Syktyvkar, 1997).

2nd International Conference on Cryopedology: cryogenic soils: ecology, genesis, classification (Syktyvkar, 1997). Organizers: four institutes of RAS (including our Institute), Russian and International Societies of Soil Sciences, International Permafrost Association, Russian Academy of Agriculture.

International Conference "Ecology of Taiga Forests" (Syktyvkar, 1998). Organizers: Institute of Biology, the RAS Scientific Council on Forest Problems, Forest Committee of Komi Republic, Syktyvkar forest Institute.

IV. Research and Training plus Education

Participation in the Senior category of canadian-russian Programme "Research and Training for Reforms" under the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada.

Participation in the Young Investigator Programs under the Office for Central Europe and Eurasia of the National Academy of Sciences/National Research Council (USA).

Participation in the 5th Dalhouse International Environmental management seminar (Halifax, Canada) as the training for increasing long-term understanding of sustainable development and environmental management.

Research and field work in USA (University of Washington, Seattle) and education and training in Sweden (University of Uppsala and Grimso Wildlife Research Station).

Participation in the Geographical Information System Course (RIZA-institute, Lelystad, the Netherlands).

Participation in education part of the Overview of Russian Institutions project (Svanhovd Environmetal Centre, Svanvik, Norway).

V. Participating (oral reports and posters) in International Conferences (supported grants from Organizing Committees, etc.)

During 1993-1998 ca. 100 scientists from our Institute have participated in different International Congresses, Conferences, Symposiums, Workshops, etc. in Austria, Canada, Czech Republic, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, The Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Switzerland, Sweden, USA.

VI. Membership in International Organizations and Working Groups

Some scientists from our Institute are members of International Union of Radioecologists, Ecological Society of USA, International Organization "Sexual Plant Reproduction", European non-government organization "EuroPlant" (plant systematics and rare species conservation), Atlantic Salmon Association; the Habitat Working Groups (boreal and temperate forest).

VII. Information assistance from International Organization

IASC, UNEP, IWRB, WATC, GRID-Arendal, LifeBird International, ECNC, MAB-NSN, AMAP, etc. send to our Institute Newsletters, Annual Reports and different information materials.
